Success is Knowing "Why"

When I started my second job out of college, I asked the manager that was leaving what's the one advice he can give me to succeed in my job. The best advice I ever got and I should always remind myself is that: it's more important to learn why you're doing something than what you're doing. For the past year, I've only been concentrating on what I need to do and how to do it, but the quickest way to learn something is to really think of why. It's understanding the larger scheme of things that brings you one step farther than you were yesterday. I'm a true believer.
